Late winter in Cape May, New Jersey. Amidst this desolate beauty of the sea-side resort, a young leather-jacketed brunette swaggers into town, full of big city bravura and a wandering libido but harboring a lonely heart. But young Micki (Monda) is not a happy camper; for her extended visit to this, her childhood home, is to reluctantly assist her ailing gay Uncle Charlie (Fecteau). Restless and angry, she wanders the town and happens upon Zoe’s, a local diner where she is immediately drawn to Roberta (Kelly), an aloof black waitress and Charlie’s best friend who is quite self-sufficient and in no mood for this gal’s attitude. But despite the differences and tensions, Micki doggedly pursues her until a friendship is made and romance a possibility. Will the two opposites find enough in each other to become lovers? Will Micki find fulfillment living in a quiet beach resort? Or will Roberta drop her apron and leave for the city? With humor, compassion and wonderful romantic electricity between the two attractive leads, Out of Season is an entertaining, amusing tale that might make a romantic out of the most hardened dyke.
