REVIEW
Figgis' follow-up to his Oscar-winning Leaving Las Vegas is an awkwardly constructed, unsatisfying but fitfully interesting infidelity drama. Snipes plays a successful commercial director with a happy home life who, while on a business trip in New York, uncharacteristically has a one night stand with yummy Kinski. The first half sets up the fling, and shows its effects on Snipes' personal and professional life. The film takes a radical right turn when Snipes visits his best friend from college (Downey) who is dying of AIDS, and then picks up the adultery story line for a truly goofy wrap-up. The ending, while silly and unbelievable, actually does mirror events in original screenwriter Joe Eszterhas' personal life.
