Expanding upon the plot line of Johnny Guitar, Leone and story collaborators Dario Argento and Bernardo Bertolucci produce a polemic that is stunning in its grandeur, funny in its cynical sense of humor -- using the horse opera as a metaphor for all that is wrong with the American capitalist system. Fonda had one of his greatest roles as one of the most cold-blooded killers in westerns ("I never trust a man who wears a belt with suspenders"). Bronson is in fine form as "The Man with the Harmonica" out for revenge. Another brilliant score by Ennio Morricone.
