Old Gringo

REVIEW
A period romance set against the backdrop of Pancho Villa's Mexican uprising in 1913. Fonda plays a spinster who travels south of the border, where she becomes involved with revolutionary Smits and writer Ambrose Bierce (played with perfection by Peck). Though the story lacks a coherent structure, it has an undeniable emotional power; and the chemistry between the three leads is palatable. Peck's soliloquy on love is a reminder of the power and excitement of great acting.
