REVIEW
With frenetic pacing, loads of sex and drugs, passion and jealousy, a smattering of serious violence and a wild collection of polysexual characters, this comedy-drama will remind many of the best of Almodovar. The setting is the ultra-hip world of swinging gay Madrid with the story centering on the love problems of three very pretty roommates and their friends. There is Yeye, a beautiful young gal who longs for her unfaithful (and possibly dangerous lover); the pink-haired Maria who lusts after the boy across the alley; and the blond vamp Monica, a bartender at a gay nightclub. Adding to the medley is Alberto, Yeye’s best friend who is hopelessly in love with the deceitful Alex (but the sex is so hard to give up), but soon falls for David who is really more interested in Yeye. There are also several drag queens and a statuesque lesbian madame (played by transsexual Bibi Andersen), a murderer on the loose and a weird S/M-obsessed detective bent on tracking the culprit down. Overall, a dizzying, stylish mixture of comedy, sex, melodrama and fun-loving, love-seeking people. (Spanish with English subtitles)
