New Jack City

Pulsating with the music, life and ever-present violence of a drug-infested inner city, this tough gangster thriller, ostensibly a black Scarface, should keep even the most taciturn viewer riveted to his seat. The city is New York, where a vicious crack dealer (villainously played by Snipes) is driving his way to the top of the drug underworld. It takes two renegade cops (Ice T, Nelson) to try to bring him and his sordid empire down. Van Peebles' first film is a tough, exciting and impressive work that successfully straddles the fine line of glorifying the drug culture while also presenting a stringent anti-drug message.
