The Net

The considerable charm of its leading lady Bullock is barely enough to keep this muddled computer-age thriller afloat. The Net consists of lots of computer talk, computer gadgets and hackers lovingly doting on their computers, but what it doesn't have is a well-developed screenplay or memorable suspense. Bullock plays a lonely computer whiz who becomes involved in a high-tech conspiracy when she gets hold of a disc able to enter any system. After the bad guys erase her identity in a particularly eerie sequence, she spends the rest of the film trying to elude them while seeking help from anyone that will listen. The chase scenes are rather flat, though the computer-babble will engage those who spend a lot of time at the keyboard.
