SKINOPSISHow the fuck did this movie get a PG-13? Jodie Foster uses her halfway decent body to demonstrate the wildness of her character. How wild is she? Well, she goes naked swimming repeatedly and she spins around in a redneck bar lifting her shirt up to reveal her nice pair while some hillbillies look on aghast. Its a miracle that it didn't lead to a repeat of that scene in The Accused. -- Rick Stanko

REVIEW
Foster's remarkably nuanced performance highlights this otherwise dispassionate, ordinary tale of a "wild child" discovered in the backwoods of North Carolina. Neeson costars as a caring physician who has his hands full when Foster is found living wild and speaking a language no one understands. Successfully arguing against having her institutionalized, Neeson moves in nearby and dedicates himself to deciphering her broken English and introducing her to civilization. Though the dramatics lead to tender moments between the two characters, the film is strangely devoid of emotion. However, the mystery of Foster's condition and the actress' unearthly inhabitation of the title character make Nell at the very least a compelling watch. Editor's Suggestions
