Needful Things

Stephen King's "tale du jour" is stylishly served up by first-time director Heston (the son of Charlton). Heston's quasi-operatic production boasts a knock-’em-dead performance by veteran actor von Sydow as Leland Gaunt, a satanic salesman whose curio shop, Needful Things, springs up out of nowhere causing all hell to break loose in the small New England town of Castle Rock. Kudos also to Plummer as a downtrodden spinster who becomes enmeshed in the soul-stealing machinations of the demonic Mr. Gaunt.
