Based on the amazingly true story of Joey Coyle (played by Cusack), a Philadelphia Average Joe who stumbles upon mountains of cash, Money for Nothing totally ignores the fact that in real life, Joey had a history of drug and psychological problems -- an explanation needed as to why Joey totally goes off kilter when money becomes no object. Even without the subtext, however, this comedy-drama still fails -- its attempts to extricate humor from Joey's moral dilemma come off pathetic rather than farcical.
