REVIEW
Chris (Bale) used to be a dreamer, an artist, a Parisian even, but after meeting Marion (Watson) he moved back to England in the '70s to settle down. Seemingly happy, he rexamines all the major decisions in his life when his old punk friend (Ross) pays him a visit. Did he really throw away the love of his life (Zylberstein) in Paris, or is the more pragmatic Marion his soulmate? Remarkably, even in delving into the sexual affairs of all four characters, Metroland remains cold and distant, a mistake when dealing with affairs of the heart. Bale has tremendous presence, and Watson plays a difficult role with charm; she embodies both the loving companion and the frustrated wife. But the sexual liberation and the ensuing sexual boredom are both explored with the same unenthusiastic calculation. You Might Also Like
