Mad Love (1995)

This could have been a fun-loving teen rebel romp across the American West, but instead it's a tedious, soppy melodrama that makes a half-hearted attempt to address mental illness. O'Donnell plays the grade-A high school senior who helps his single dad keep the family together. Barrymore is the new kid in town, a raging rebel who spells trouble from the start. It's not hard to guess that O'Donnell falls for her and forsakes his comfy chemistry exam-laden life for the dangerous female newcomer. Add to this time-honored contrivance an oh-too-trendy Seattle backdrop and a relentless grunge soundtrack and you get the feeling that the producers slapped this thing together with tired formulas and scotch tape.
