FROM THE LINER NOTESA graphically violent version of the classical Shakespearian play about a murderously ambitious couple in debt to witchcraft and prophesies. Polanski's Macbeth is certainly the most inspired in its recreation of the cold barbaric spirit of the play's original setting.3 REASONS TO BUY THIS FILM
REVIEW
Who knows what evil lurked in the heart of the Bard when he penned this murderous tale of treachery and violence? In any case, Polanski's grim and gory conception of Shakespeare's bloody drama is not only one of his greatest films, but is one of the truest renditions of this sordid tale. Gripping and highly atmospheric, the film was greeted by an uproar fueled by its extreme (but not unwarranted) violence, a speech by Lady Macbeth in the nude, and problems in Polanski's personal life.
