REVIEW
A gripping drama of determination and the inexhaustible power of love, Berri's exquisite WWII film tells the true story of a French woman, Lucie Aubrac (marvelously played by Bouquet), a schoolteacher and mother who risks all for the safety of her husband. Auteuil is Monsieur Aubrac, a Resistance member fighting the Nazis in Lyons. When he and other partisans are captured by the Germans, his wife joins the Resistance and plans and executes a daring escape. Berri, who directed Auteuil in the masterful Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring, maintains tension throughout the film as the outcome is never a given. Lucie Aubrac is also a fascinating peek into the anatomy of a group of freedom fighters who placed themselves in harm's way every single day. (French with English subtitles) You Might Also Like
