REVIEW
Boasting a casual view of adultery, this early Malle melodrama became famous mostly for censorship problems and court cases on its initial United States release. Moreau stars as a restless woman, bored by the privileges of her Pernod-and-caviar provincial life and trapped in a loveless marriage. Weekly sojourns into the elegant world of Parisian society produce some diversion until one day she meets an unpretentious young student who offers her sexual fulfillment and temporary relief from her emptiness. Moreau, with her sad, sultry beauty, was made an international star by the film. (French with English subtitles)
