Little Boy Blue

A creaky melodrama about a Texas family harboring some painful secrets, Little Boy Blue slowly approaches its finale, but when it does come, it packs a wallop. Jimmy West (Phillippe) is about to go away to college with his girlfriend and pursue a baseball career, but he really wants to stay home to care for his two small brothers. Actually, Jimmy in hoping to rescue them and their mom (Kinski) from their sadistic dad Ray (Savage), a vet who is dealing with some pretty serious issues. A few things complicate the escape plans, not the least of which is the death of a stranger who has tracked down Ray. Director Tibaldi's gritty film does not hold much in the way of drama, but its characterizations are well done.
