REVIEW
A wonderful and rather bizarre coming-of-age tale, about an imaginative 12-year-old boy who believes he is the offspring of a Sicilian tomato (yes, the fruit). A clever mixture of reality and imagination, the film follows the exploits of young Léolo and his dysfunctional family: his parents who are obsessed with bowel movements; a dim-witted weight lifting brother; and a sister calmed only by her secret bug collection. The imagery is haunting, beautiful, disgusting and often hysterical, and the film is enhanced by beautiful cinematography and a soundtrack featuring Tom Waits and The Rolling Stones.
