Sexy trailer trash Rockwell (as appealing here as he was in Box of Moonlight) mows lawns for the snooty residents of a cloistered neighborhood complex. Another misfit, the very imaginative ten-year-old daughter of a well-to-do couple in this suburban hell, has no friends and takes a shining to Rockwell, and after a fair amount of her pestering, they become unlikely friends. Predictably, the community misunderstands this strong, though innocent and platonic, relationship. While a bit cartoonish in its view of suburbia, Lawn Dogs still has some witty, sharp observations, and a handful of knowing laughs. Though it has a low-key fairy-tale atmosphere, the entire movie is negated with a completely wrong-headed final act that piles on the contrivances and ridiculous events and motivations, until a ludicrous finale.
