REVIEW
Though The Last Days of Disco has the same feel and explores themes found in director Stillman's first two films Metropolitan and Barcelona, there's still a lot to like about this look at the thoughts and loves of a group of friends during the last days of the disco era. Using the waning days of the dance craze as a backdrop to more worldly discussions, Stillman has once again assembled a good-looking, articulate and successful group who work all day to party all night. Sevigny stars as Alice, a literary agent who shares an apartment with the acid-tongued Charlotte (Beckinsale in a great turn), each becoming involved with a couple of potential Mr. Rights. As would be expected, Stillman is much more interested in the thoughts and deeds of his characters rather than a more narrative-driven story line. And he's written some remarkable and funny observations about love, relationships, career and, of course, disco. But he's got to move on or he'll become a relic of his time -- does K.C. and the Sunshine Band ring a bell?
