REVIEW
He is billed as "the eighth wonder of the world" and, in the sixty years since the movie's release, animator Willis O'Brien's awesome creature has all but lived up to that title. There are ample reasons why this parable about the notorious giant ape let loose in New York City has had such an enduring notoriety. As enormous and unwieldy as the whole project is, the simple fable around which the story is built continues to be resonant. As an adventure-fantasy, King Kong has yet to be outdone. (Sequel: Son of Kong) (Remade in 1976)
