REVIEW
Jarman's wildly inventive, highly personal punk fantasy of a post-apocalyptic future of a dying England takes off where A Clockwork Orange ended. The Queen is dead, Buckingham Palace is a recording studio and the police have it off with each other when they're not breaking the heads of young men. In a nod to Civilization, Queen Elizabeth I is transported by her astrologer to the close of the 20th century to witness the disintegration of order and the explosion of destruction and chaos. A punk punk version of "Rule Britannia" is a musical highlight, with additional music by Adam and the Ants, Siouxie and the Banshees, and Brian Eno. A fascinating culture shock look at a pre-Thatcherized England.
