Before The Return of the Secaucus Seven, The Big Chill or even "thirtysomething," there was Tanner's fascinating political comedy which follows a disparate group of post-May '68 "Coke/Marxists" who, each in their own individualistic fashion, must come to grips with a changing political and social scene brought on by the more conservative period of the '70s. The characters all must begin making a living but all the while trying to retain their political commitments in an increasingly repressive environment. The ensemble actors are uniformly excellent, and the dialogue is quick, fascinating and challenging. A remarkably relevant film for any political climate.
