Pryor wrote, directed and stars in this autobiographical story of the rise and fall of a talented black comedian, whose drug habit nearly kills him. Though Pryor commendably opens up some deep wounds, and the comic's early years are well captured, much of the film suffers from a lack of energy and soul.
