REVIEW
Uneven, tough, cumultively powerful trio of tales about women dealing with abortion in different time periods in America. Moore wants an abortion in the '50s; Spacek is a pregnant mother in the '70s, indecision about having another child; and Heche is a '90s woman, pregnant with her married professor's child, who decides to abort it. All three stories have their merits, describing a specific time and political climate contributing to these ladies' choices. Interestingly, while the Moore segment is frustrating, it's the '90s Heche tale that is the scariest and most infuriating. Cher (who also directs) plays a doctor at an abortion clinic beset by vehement protests. This is the most chilling (and, it must be said, sensationalistic) of the three, due in large part to the excellent performances and strong direction, traits which are, to be sure, found in the other two as well. "Walls" is certainly (and predictably) pro-choice, but is rather fair to both sides. Good drama, and excellent discussion fodder. Editor's Suggestions
