SKINOPSISYeah, we're shameless... Factory Girl is so huge for us, we're repromoting this indie about crazy lesbian Valerie Solanas, Warhol's would-be assassin. Art house fans will enjoy rare peeks at Martha Plimpton's peckers, plus a quick shot of a topless Lili Taylor being hosed down in the hoosegow. -- Handy Reed
REVIEW
From its opening, which portrays the aftermath of the action of its title, I Shot Andy Warhol is a frantically paced and at times gripping chronicle of Valerie Solanas, Warhol's would-be assassin. Solanas (smartly played by Taylor) was a semi-delusional lesbian feminist activist who slummed around Greenwich Village in the early '60s turning tricks to survive. Essentially, Solanas comes off as a born loser, but one with an irrepressible and often brilliant intellect. In the film (though probably not in real life), she hangs around with transvestite Candy Darling (Dorff in an amazingly transformative role), who ultimately introduces her to Warhol and his milieu. For the most part, the film hits its mark, despite an overly long party scene at The Factory. With a gritty streetwise demeanor, Taylor delivers rapid-fire speech at a relentless pace, and she's nothing short of first-rate. As Warhol, Harris is an exquisite understatement of ethereal chic.
