I Love You, I Love You Not

Adapted from a stage play, and it really shows, I Love You, I Love You Not stars Moreau as a concentration camp survivor living in Manhattan who takes in her introvert granddaughter (Danes), who's smitten with the class jock (Law). The story deals with issues of anti-Semitism, peer pressure, teen love and self-identity, but with all the subtlety of an "Afterschool Special," and the conflicts and resolutions are so formulaic it's easy to overlook Moreau's graceful performance. Danes has a dual role, too, playing her own grandmother in the WWII flashback sequences.
