Homegrown

Oddly marketed as a comedy, Homegrown is actually a trite murder mystery set against the relatively unexamined (by Hollywood standards) landscape of America's professional marijuana industry. The flimsily constructed script cashes in on both the sensationalism and the obligatory humor attached with the subject matter, and merely hedges around the larger issues connected with what is reputedly known as America's most profitable cash crop. Despite a diverse cast, the central characters are spread too thin to hide the blemishes in the predictable story line about three dopey weed farmers who become ad-hoc drug dealers after witnessing their boss' murder. Complete with three hundred pot jokes, two inferred sex scenes, one dumb plot twist, and half a high-speed car chase, Homegrown is still a few ounces short of a pound.
