REVIEW
The sixth collaboration between actor Redford and director Pollack features intelligent acting and competent direction, but is plagued by an insufferably poor script. The story follows the exploits of Redford as a big-stakes American gambler who's hanging around Havana on the eve of the Communist takeover. All he's interested in is a good poker game, but when he becomes smitten by the wife of a wealthy revolutionary (Olin), he is inextricably sucked into the political fray. The film borrows heavily from classics like Casablanca, right down to the Scandinavian-born leading lady, but falls mighty short of that film's greatness.
