Haunted

A slow-moving yet haunting ghost story about an arrogant turn-of-the-century college professor (Quinn) who, having been haunted as a child by the accidental death of his younger sister, has dedicated his life to proving there's no such things as ghosts. But when he takes up the challenge of exorcising a country estate, he uncovers a supernatural scandal so horrifying even Casper would run screaming. Director Gilbert is in uncharted territory with this poltergeist patchwork, but he compensates the unlively pace and familiar scare techniques with a good screenplay (based on the novel by James Herbert), winning performances and that great shock ending.
