A parents' nightmare makes for an enjoyably trashy if contrived thriller. Having created a sense of dread in Bad Influence, director Hanson resorts to all the tricks to give a potent scare or two. Sciorra and McCoy are almost the perfect new-age couple. They're madly in love, have a perfect home, perfect children...gee, the perfect life. Into their home comes what they think to be the perfect nanny, DeMornay. But she blames Sciorra for her husband's death and now has a score to settle. DeMornay is actually quite good as a demented Mary Poppins, and her effective performance is at the heart of Cradle's modest success. Editor's Suggestions
