REVIEW
Writer-director Kasdan turns his discerning eye to the fears and frustrations facing the American society in the '90s. An epic assignment, to be sure, but Kasdan and co-writer and wife Meg have fashioned an insightful and powerful examination of our times. Heading a dream cast, Kline plays a successful L.A. lawyer whose wrong turn driving home leads to an altercation with a street gang. He is rescued by truck driver Glover. The two men befriend each other, ultimately opening a wide panorama of issues and concerns facing not only them but their family and friends. The film tackles disparate themes such as racism, child abandonment, crime, violence, family mores, just to name a few, and all are handled with sensitivity and thoughtfulness. A beautiful achievement from Kasdan and his excellent ensemble cast.
