REVIEW
A handsomely mounted, but largely uninvolving drama by writer-director Goldbacher, this story of an interloper and her affairs is more ambitious than it is good. Rosina (Driver) is a Jewess from London who passes herself as Mary Blackchurch, a governess. Employed by the Cavendish family, Rosina meets the bratty daughter, the brittle wife, and the robust patriarch (Wilkinson), an amateur photographer who takes a sexual interest in her. She also becomes the romantic obsession of Henry (Meyers), the teenage son who learns her secret. The drama is uninspired, and the passions are more tepid than torrid. It's an overheated but underwhelming romance. The cinematography, however, is beautiful. You Might Also Like
