Russell takes another step beyond the edge with this unusual, dreamlike psychological thriller. Set in the 1800s at Lord Byron's villa, the film depicts one hellish night spent by Byron and his guests, who included P.B. Shelley, his lover Mary, and author Dr. Polidori. The film suggests this fateful evening inspired Polidori to write "The Vampyre" and Mary (who would later marry her paramour) to pen "Frankenstein."
