REVIEW
Sibling rivalry achieves new heights in this courageous but ultimately disappointing musical drama which examines the fragile relationship between two sisters. Giving a no-holds-barred performance which is as gutsy as it is excessive, Leigh plays Sadie, an untalented rock singer struggling to make a name for herself in the grunge clubs of Seattle. Her sister, Georgia (Winningham), however, has made a name for herself, a success which Sadie both resents and desperately strives for. Georgia is at its best when exploring their unstable relationship -- Georgia is somewhat intolerant but protective, Sadie constantly seeking independence and approval. But the film also seems to revel in Sadie's professional and personal inadequacies, often exposing raw emotions in a dramatically involving series of events but without benefit of much subtlety. However, Sadie's final indignity is that a film about her is named after Georgia. You Might Also Like
