Marilyn is the gold-digging Lorelei Lee, who's just a little girl from Little Rock. She and best pal Jane head to Paris in search of well-heeled husbands. Though Hawks' direction is sometimes static, and he may not fully understand the intricacies of the Hollywood musical, he nevertheless has created a bright and brassy musical comedy. Featuring unbeatable humor and the classic "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" production number, Gentlemen's wonderful story line and snappy dialogue shine through. Marilyn gives one of her most endearing performances. And Russell, who has the funniest line about a hat, is at her best.
