REVIEW
The uncomfortable filmic mix of lesbianism and brutal murder continues in this annoying independent drama. Treading the familiar terrain of the similarly themed (and better made) Heavenly Creatures and Sister My Sister, Fun chronicles the one-day friendship between two troubled teenaged girls, a fast and furious attraction that ends with the unprovoked murder of an elderly woman. The story is told in flashbacks as a male journalist and their female prison psychiatrist attempt to fathom some reason for their horrendous act. Fun tries to be a revealing character study as it uncovers their thoughts, feelings and motivations, and even tries to suggest that their love for each other is the catalyst for their behavoir; the result is ultimately contrived and unrewarding.
