A superior political thriller with Caine as a government agent who stumbles upon a plot by a renegade Soviet general to destroy an American airbase in England. Based on Frederick Forsyth's novel, the film, as with the author's The Day of the Jackal, builds an unrelenting tension until its shattering conclusion. Brosnan is the KGB agent assigned to the deadly task, and Cassidy is radiant as his contact.
