REVIEW
While two of the four segments in this anthology film are moderately good, the other two are so abysmally bad that they very nearly make the entire project a failure. The film takes place on New Year's Eve and tells four different bizarre stories, happening in four different rooms of a hotel serviced by one very overworked bellboy (Roth in an ingratiatingly mugging performance). Anders' segment concerns a coven of witches; it's boring from start to finish. Rockwell's bit is equally bad: It stars Beals as the victim of a twisted bondage and power game and is actually painful to watch. The film livens up substantially in Rodriguez's segment, about two children in a room by themselves, nominally supervised by Roth. And Tarantino's segment tops off the weird mix with a macabre tale of a bet made in flesh.
