Based on the novel by Philippe Labro, this low-key adaptation examines an interracial romance in the 1950s. Hofschneider plays a Parisian exchange student who spends a semester at a Southern college. There he meets a beautiful black woman (Givens), a teacher who works as a maid at the home of one of his professors. Blind to the segregation and racism of the times, he pursues her, and the two fall in love. Any interesting dramatics is countered by rather listless pacing.
