REVIEW
Perry plays a New Yorker working in a nightclub in Las Vegas who has a one-night stand with Hayek, an earthy, aspiring photographer. Before the bacon and eggs are made in the morning, she takes off, only to reappear a few months later, pregnant. They marry (at the sort of Vegas where Elvis is sighted daily), and problems immediately kick in: culture clashes, coastal clashes, religious clashes. There's no way this relationship should work. And, until the screenwriters settle for a syrupy, storybook finale, it doesn't. There are so many differences between the characters, you wonder where the romance comes into the romantic comedy. Hayek steals the show as the hot tamale; Perry plays it befuddled throughout. As an old song once asked, "Why do fools fall in love?" After watching this, your answer may be: "Who cares?"
