Flirting with Disaster

A relentlessly funny film about a young couple who set out on a cross-country drive in search of a name for their new baby. The trouble begins when Stiller (an adoptee) becomes obsessed with finding his birth parents before bestowing his newborn son with an appelation. In steps Leoni, a long-legged, ravishing and slightly batty psychology student who's sent by the adoption agency to help him in his search. Along the way several uproarious blunders and mistaken identities are made and Stiller and Leoni do a little of their own "flirting with disaster." Into the mix are thrown a pair of federal agents, one of whom happens to be Arquette's former boyfriend, and the sexual hijinks really begin to heat up. Hilarious supporting work comes from Moore and Segal as Stiller's adoptive parents and Alda and Tomlin as his real ones. As written and directed by Russell, the film is a rollicking, quixotic journey that unleashes a barrage of side-splitting gags and awkward situations, culminating in a mind-bending denouement that will warm the cockles of any ex-hippie's heart.
