REVIEW
Director Duigan's follow-up to The Year My Voice Broke is one of those purely delightful cinematic surprises -- an insightful, intelligent and superbly crafted tale of coming-of-age. Set in early 1960s Australia, the story follows Danny Embling, a pimply-faced youth with leftist leanings and a commanding intellect who is suffering through his time at a posh, all-boys boarding school. Scandal ensues when he becomes involved with Thandiwe Adjewa, a Ugandan student (whose father is fleeing the regime of Idi Amin) from the sister school across the lake. Kidman is solid in support as a bitchy student who tries, at first, to sabotage their relationship. Filled with humor, mirth and unwavering humanism, Flirting is a small gem of a movie.
