REVIEW
Based on a story by Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev, this lyrical drama -- photographed by Sven Nykvist -- features a very attractive love interest in Sanda and Moulder-Brown. Set in a Russian dacha during the calm before World War I, the story involves a teenager's (Moulder-Brown) first love with the lovely yet bedeviling daughter of an impoverished and eccentric old woman who moves in next door. Our lovesick young man's attempts to capture her interest are thrown into confusion when he discovers that she is his father's mistress! The excitement, pain and mystery of young love are captured in this Barry Levinson-produced film.
