First teamed in No Mercy, where they caused very few sparks, Gere and Basinger are together again in this routine but flashy thriller. A low-key Gere plays a successful San Francisco psychiatrist who, faster than you can say "Prince of Tides," becomes involved with a relative of one of his patients. The patient: Thurman, who shows up with new and interesting stories. The relative: Basinger, a beauty who could use a few hours on the couch herself. As Gere becomes spellbound by Basinger, he finds himself caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse between Basinger and her gangster husband Roberts.
