Fatal Instinct

Unjustly maligned upon its release, Fatal Instinct is a sometimes very funny takeoff on film noir -- and some of the targets include Body Heat, Basic Instinct and Double Indemnity. Though no Leslie Nieslen, Assante proves himself quite adept at parody, playing a cop/lawyer whose work for client Young puts him on the road to danger. Nelligan is his wife, who's planning to knock off her husband and run off with her mechanic. As with most comedies of this sort, not all the gags work, but there's an abundance of laughs which do, thanks to a cast which clearly is having a lot of fun. Our favorite gag: Young's Fatal Attraction roller coaster ride.
