SKINOPSISWe're still having nightmares, and not from the suspense. We're all for chicks of all shapes and sizes and ethnicities and whatnot, but Glenn Close????? Was there seriously a time when people didn't wretch at the sight of her face let alone her boobs. Just thinking about it has got us barely holding in our own vomit. We've always said that all women ought to get naked on film, but we'd like to slightly amend that. -- Rick Stanko

A box-office sensation, this psychological thriller is a not-too-subtle cautionary tale about adultery in the age of AIDS. Married exec Douglas has a one-night stand with Close and lives to regret it. Archer is the wife who is most hurt (literally) by the indiscretion. The film received a Best Picture nomination -- a nod more to the sociopolitical impact of the story than a recognition of great filmmaking.
