Roeg's tale of a gold prospector (Hackman) who strikes it rich in the Yukon and, years later, must fight gangsters and a son-in-law who might be a sorcerer is told in the director's familiar mythic style. His trademarks -- breathtaking cinematography, jagged editing, and temporal jumps -- are all present in this mystical story of greed and lust.
