REVIEW
A small group of recovering alcoholics gather in the basement of a Times Square church for an intense AA meeting. One member (Lewis) ducks out early to walk the streets of New York City -- will he revert to his old ways? Well-intentioned but rather flat, Drunks barely qualifies as a movie; it's basically a succession of talking heads, each giving his or her story of addiction and misery. This is an adaptation of the play "Blackout," and its theatrical origins show. The acting is uniformly good, with individual moments of power, but the overall effect is artificial and unconvincing. It has the feel of an actor's workshop, and screams to be left on the stage. Editor's Suggestions
