REVIEW
Araki's self-acknowledged "heterosexual film," a teens-on-the-run epic, is dripping with homoerotic undertones, foul language, and violence that borders on the sadistic. On what was supposed to be a simple date, the tough-as-nails Amy (McGowan), an angry Valley Girl with a checkered past, and Jordan (Duval), a sweetly naive cutie, meet up with the dangerously sexy X (Schaech). He soon gets them involved in a Quickie Mart robbery that turns deadly. And with bloody Twinkies in hand, the three escape into the neon night. Of course, just like those horny mall rats of suburbia, sex is always on the minds of our attractive protagonists, resulting in various couplings. Mocking all the values Middle America holds near and dear, The Doom Generation is a viciously funny, tumultously nihilistic ride through a hellish California. Buckle up.
