REVIEW
In this deliriously romantic fable about the power and magic of love, Depp stars as a possibly delusional young man who, insisting that he is the legendary lover Don Juan, decides to end his life because he cannot have the one woman he truly loves. Enter Brando as the retiring psychiatrist who tries to unlock the mystery of "the greatest lover that ever lived," all the while being seduced by the rhapsodic tales Depp spins during his therapy. First-time director Leven (a clinical psychologist and author) serves up possibly the most delicious mixture of erotic love and comedy since Like Water for Chocolate. Even in light of the ever-radiant Dunaway (as Brando's loving but neglected wife) being underutilized and Brando's sometimes cumbersome presence, Don Juan is a natural charmer -- as only Depp could play him.
